The last pier ;PB12 of Danube Bridge Vidin-Calafat reached its utmost height – the fourth in the navigable channel of the river. The pier is 44, 76 m high. There are 24 piles in its foundation at a depth of up to 78 meters. The pile cap, built in the shape of a truncated pyramid over the piles, is 6 m high. At the top of pier PB12 are erected two towers, each one 27,18 meters. To protect the foundation of the pier from potential collisions of ships or other heavy objects there will be 19 pairs of vessel impact protections installed, each weighing from 80 to 120 tons. Five pairs of them have already been installed.
At PB9 the assembly of the segments of the deck has been completed, and it has already been connected with the deck of the non-navigable channel of the river. A total of 178 segments weighing up to 240 tons will build the deck of the bridge in the navigable channel of the river. In the non-navigable channel of the river their number is 300.
The installation of the cable-stayed structure at pier PB9 has been completed, as there are 13 pairs of stay cables on both sides of the superstructure. At PB 10 are installed 8 pairs of stay cables.
