The assembly of the vessel impact protections has begun at the last pier of Danube Bridge Vidin-Calafat. Pier PB12 is the closest one to the Romanian bank. A total number of 19 pairs of the vessel protections will be assembled at the four piers of the bridge in the navigable channel of the river. The elements, each of weight from 80 to 120 tons, are produced in the production plant of the company – executor of the Project, FCC Construccion, situated in Free Zone –Vidin.
So far nine pairs of the vessel protections have been assembled at PB9, at pier PB10 – 12 and at pier PB11 – 14 pairs.
The assembly of the segments from the superstructure of the bridge at piers PB9 and PB10 is going on. A total number of 178 segments, of weight up to 240 tons, will build the body of the bridge in the navigable channel of the Danube. In the non-navigable channel of the river their number is 650.
The assembly of the stays at the first two piers in the navigable channel of the Danube is going on – 11 pairs are assembled at pier PB9 and five – at PB10. At each of the four piers in the navigable channel of the river there will be 13 pairs of stays.
The construction of the railway approach road to the bridge is going on.
72% of the Contract for the construction of the bridge has been completed up to December 2011, as 86,1% of the contract price has been paid for its construction.
The contract for construction of the Adjoining Infrastructure to the bridge on Bulgarian territory has been completed to 88 %. All the road and railway overpasses, the railway and road tracks and routes have been nearly completed. The construction at present is focused at the finishing works of the buildings of the Passenger’s Station Vidin and the New Border Freight Station, the reconstruction of the Traction Substation Vidin, the completion of the embankments for the road and railway overpasses, the mounting of guardrails along the road pavements and the overpasses and etc. 76,8% of the negotiated price has been paid for the execution of the construction.
